Keith Tucker Wins his First National Title(s)
It’s not easy to get 17 year old Keith Tucker fired up about something. But after winning the first three national titles of his career would there be some fist pumping, some “yeah baby’s” and a spring in his step? Well, not so much. What about when he knew he was going to win, was there any nervousness, any change in his thinking? Nope. Keith describes the moment as just like any other, “half way through the last moto I knew all I had to do was finish 2nd but I passed for the lead anyway. I felt really strong on the bike and I wasn’t really thinking about winning a title or anything, just riding strong the whole way. So yeah, I won”. Umm OK Keith!
For those of us that have been around Keith for the last few years he always seemed to have the potential to win but either suffered an injury right before a national or crashed at inopportune times. He says he always knew he could win but had to get stronger on the bike and fully healthy, as Keith tells it,” for sure my strength on the bike is so much better now which has helped me crash less. And my technique is better than ever and I had some of the fastest lap times so I knew I was fast”.
Colleen adds, “There’s nothing like that one single moment in a rider’s career, after the hundreds of hours of practice and countless disappointing races, that finally comes in the form of a first national title. As his trainers we have been lucky enough to witness it and it reminds us what we love most about what we do. It is not just his first title, but all over again, ours!
Keith has now won a title in his last three nationals, Millcreek (250 B stock and mod), Oak Hill (250 Open am) and Freestone (collegeboy 16-24). With his improved riding maybe a Loretta's title is in his near future? Who knows? One thing’s for sure though, he will be calm and low key, never a bad thing at a big race.
