So Close!

May 8, 2017

Jordon Smith was so close Saturday night in Las Vegas to winning the 250 West championship in his 1st year on the Troy Lee Designs Red Bull KTM.

An exciting night of racing at Sam Boyd Stadium saw Zach Osborne #16 come from dead last in the 250 West main event to take the championship after pass on Joey Savatgy #17 in the penultimate turn of the race.

At one point or another each of the three main contenders must have thought they had the championship wrapped up, Jordon Smith #44 early while running in the top 5, Joey mid race and Zach on the last couple of turns. If there was a more exciting finish to a 250 Supercross season we can’t remember when it was.

After a great start and a Joey tip over, Jordon Smith had the title in his grasp but his chance slipped away with a high speed crash on the long straight. Jordon is physically unhurt but will rue the mistake that cost him. But all credit to a great ride by Zach Osborne who denied Joey Savatgy with a block pass on the 2nd to last turn.

MTF’s Dakota Alix was taken out on the 1st turn and could not continue while Anthony Rodriguez came in 19th.

Hangtown is less than two weeks away (May 20th)
